The culture of the lands of the Mediterranean sprang up from the area’s grain crops, its vineyards and its olive groves.
The olive came late to Italy, from Greece, but found a fertile ground in the Apulia region, thanks to its geographic position and temperate climate. The ancient olive trees of Apulia are one of the major sources of prime quality “extra virgin olive oil”. Unlike oilseed products (soy, peanut, sunflower, etc.), extra virgin olive oil is the only vegetable oil which is obtained mechanically, from olives with no chemical treatment. This oil’s high nutritional value is ensured by the presence of vitamins E, A, K and D (which are endowed both with antioxidant and body’s cell protection properties).
It has been scientifically demonstrated that constant use of extra virgin olive oil lowers bad cholesterol and boosts good cholesterol levels. Extra virgin olive oil as a regular part of our diet helps prevent cardiovascular diseases and arteriosclerosis.
As a product, Terre di San Vito’s extra virgin olive oil – paying a homage to this land of ours, and the full fruits it bears, providing so much of what is vitally important for Man’s wellbeing – takes its place as a major part of the heritage of Mediterranean civilization.
